DIY 3D PRINTED ELECTRIC DUCTED FAN ON A HOMEMADE V-TAIL AIRPLANE
This video shows my V-tail homemade airplane powered by my 64mm 3d printed electric ducted fan unit that I designed on Solidworks.
I built a 70mm EDF jet plane last year and I am yet to maiden it because I still do not have a flight battery for it. The thought of making my own EDF unit that will utilize the 1500mah 3s lipo I had started to ring loud in my head. The highest RPM motor I had was an a2212 2700kv brushless motor.
I started my research about EDFs. I needed to design my own EDF that would work with my low 2700kv motor and 1500mah 3s, 11.1v lipo battery.
After a series of calculations, I designed my EDF unit around the motor. I designed an impeller that best suits the motor’s RPM and power.
I yelled so loud in the background when the plane flew under the power of the 3d printed EDF.
My excitement was uncontainable. This experiment was just as satisfying as my homemade wooden airplane propeller for an RC airplane which was also a huge success.
I hope that you enjoy this video as much as I enjoyed the process.
