Shirley M. Tilghman is president emerita and professor of molecular biology at Princeton University.
Q. What career and life advice would you give to recent college grads?
A. Other than aim high and be bold, which is what I would say at the end of every commencement address (all those commencement addresses!). I’d point out that you are what you do every day. If that is something that is feeding your soul then you're going to live a rich life. If it is something you were doing just because the money is so good or you're doing because everybody else thinks that it’s a really cool thing to do, but you don't, then I think you will not be a happy individual. So I think thinking hard about your work as something that is going to be feeding your soul, because you spend the majority of your waking hours doing it for a good part of the rest of your life.
