Community resilience is a measure of the continuous ability of a community to utilize available resources to respond to, withstand, and recover from adverse situations. Such adversities can include poverty, lack of physical and mental healthcare services, homelessness, natural disasters, violence, limited access to healthy foods, lack of educational opportunity, or poor housing quality. Building community resilience is an essential factor in improving public and social health outcomes to sustain a physically, mentally and socially healthy population.
The purpose of the 2018 HHI Academy “Building Community Resilience” is to instill confidence in coalition members to increase community engagement and collaboration and build knowledge and skills that will combat adversities and result in positive health outcomes within a community.
