STORYLINE:
Six samba schools performed in Marques de Sapucai Sambadrome in Rio de Janeiro on Monday night.
Thousands of dancers, musicians and performers participated on the second and final day of the "Samba Parade" portion of Rio's renowned Carnival.
Like football, the samba schools are divided into first, second and third leagues depending on their performance.
With six others competing on Sunday night, a total of 12 schools are vying to be crowned the best samba school in the city.
The annual parade is fiercely contested and closely followed all over the country.
There is no prize except a trophy and the associated glory.
The winner will be announced on Wednesday, with judges rating schools in nine different categories.
