This on-line seminar hosted by the National Coordinated Soil Moisture Monitoring Network (NCSMMN) from November 16, 2022 focused on opportunities for applying soil moisture information to inform Fire Danger Rating Systems. It included an overview of soil moisture and wildfire research as well as a presentation on Topofire, a high-resolution (250-meter) modeling system being used to develop a revised version of the Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) that accounts for soil moisture and other key variables.
