How to throw away a mattress. Want to dispose of a mattress? It you ever wanted to see someone throw away a queen size mattress, this is for you. I'm throwing away a mattress and putting it into a dumpster. It can even be torn up and put in your large garbage can.
This is what you do if you can't get it to the dump because it doesn't fit in your car. Or it's too gross and you hate going to the dump and you cannot wait to get rid of this mattress. You tear it apart so it's no longer a mattress.
We used a razor blade to cut down the foam layers into pieces, remove the springs (fold them in half, tied them shut, then took them to be recycled at a metal recycler) and then threw the rest out. It sure is time for a new mattress!

There's not a mattress recycler nearby. Please ask for permission before using a public dumpster. Note, this wasn't a pubic dumpster.
