Valmiki Nagar Tiger Reserve is the only Tiger Reserve in Bihar situated in West Champaran district. The reserve consists of more than 45 tigers, 100 plus leopards, and different other animals like Indian Gaur, King Cobra, different varieties of deer, sloth bear, and many birds.
Almost 300 km from the main town of Patna, it is very well connected with good roads and good hospitality.

Valmiki Tiger Reserve forms the eastern most limit of the Himalayan Terai forests in India, and is the only tiger reserve of Bihar. Situated in the Gangetic Plains bio-geographic zone of the country, the forest has combination of bhabar and terai tracts. Valmiki Tiger Reserve lies in the north-westernmost West Champaran district of Bihar. Name of the district has been derived from two words Champa and Aranya meaning Forest of Champa trees.
Wild Animal Diversity
Wild mammals found in the forests of Valmiki Tiger Reserve are Tiger, Sloth bear, Leopard, Wild dog, Bison, Wild boar etc. Several species of deer and antelopes viz barking deer, spotted deer, hog deer, sambar and blue bull are also found here. In Madanpur forest block large number of Indian flying foxes can be sighted. The Reserve has rich avi-fauna diversity. Over 250 species of birds have been reported.
Introduction
Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR) is one of the nature's virgin recesses in east India and is situated in the North West corner of the State of Bihar. The pristine forest and wilderness of VTR is an excellent example of Himalayan Terai landscape. VTR comprises of the Valmiki National Park and Valmiki Wildlife Sanctuary. The VTR forest area covers 901.07 sq km which is 17.4% of the total geographical area of the district West Champaran.
Total forest area comprises of about 901 sq.km., out of which expanse of Valmiki Wildlife Sanctuary is 880.78 sq km. and spread of the National Park is about 335.64 sq. km.In north, the protected areas are bordered by Nepal while the Indian state Uttar Pradesh bounds the Wildlife Sanctuary from western side.
