RULES:
Setup. If you have room, the official full-size court is a rectangle, 100 feet long by 50 feet wide. The first stake is in the center of the court 6 feet from one end. The first wicket is centered 6 feet away from the stake with the 2nd wicket 6 feet from that one. The next two outside wickets are 16 feet up from the 2nd wicket and are 6 feet in from the sides. The middle stake is in the center of the court, 32 feet from the 2nd wicket. Mirror this arrangement for the 2nd half of the court.
For backyard play you can adjust the size and shape of the court to fit the available space. You can use string or chalk to mark defined boundaries if you like. The nine wickets and two stakes are arranged in a double- diamond pattern, beginning at the at the first wicket and traveling through the first 7 wickets, hitting the returning stake, then traveling through the next 7 wickets and ending at the finishing stake.
If you are playing on a smaller court, the distances should be scaled down in proportion to the length and width of the court. The wickets should be firmly planted in the ground, and the width of the wickets should be uniform throughout the court.
If you like, you can use colored clips to mark the next wicket your ball must go through. The clip is picked up when a wicket is scored, then placed on the ball's next wicket at the end of the turn. You can use string or “chalk” to mark boundaries of the court, or just designate “off the grass” as a boundary.
