A provisional cast-on is used when you wish to go back later and work the other way from the cast-on row. By casting on with Judy's Magic cast-on and two circular needles of the same size, you can work the stitches on one needle while holding the stitches on the second needle for later. The full number of stitches are cast on to both needles. Judy's leaves a ridge of purl bumps, so if you are working stockinette stitch, this will be your wrong side. If working garter stitch, it will be your right side. This cast-on is used in my Swoop Softly Cardigan!

Knitting How-To: Judy's Magic Cast-on as Provisional. Estimate yarn tail length by wrapping needle and calculating length needed. Hold two circular needles of the same size parallel to one another. Hold yarn in the slingshot grip with first loop across top needle. The forefinger yarn will be used for the bottom needle; the yarn on the thumb will be used for the top needle. Alternate wrapping needles, starting with the bottom (the loop on the top needle is the first stitch). Each stitch must be mounted with right leg in front and left leg in back, so the yarn comes around the bottom of each needle and then over the top of each needle. Cast on the full number of stitches to both needles. Hold bottom needle stitches on cable to work later and start working stitches on top cable.

If your goal is to hone your knitting skills - especially lace knitting - you've come to the right place! I'm a life-long knitter and crafter, and I've been designing patterns for hand knitters since 2007 under the name Designs by Romi and Rosemary (Romi) Hill. I created this channel to share the experience I've gathered (sometimes in the most difficult way!) with you, and to offer support for my patterns. I often go live here to talk through techniques, charts, and pattern specifics; and to go over knitting basics. I have a series of shorter videos - Teeny Tiny Tutorials - where I show you just the technique, so you can get right back to what you love most: knitting! If you have a question about one of my patterns or a request for a tutorial, let me know, and I will do my best to cover it for you. I want you all to feel empowered, because you are the boss of your knitting! You can find my patterns at [ Ссылка ] and at [ Ссылка ] 🧶 Find out more at [ Ссылка ] and sign up for my newsletter to get 15% off your first pattern purchase! [ Ссылка ]
