My father, Edward F. Tubbs (1943-1992), served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He took his 8mm silent movie camera with him and captured a great deal of footage in the US, the Philippines, and Vietnam.
My wife recently worked with a company (as part of a Christmas present to me) to convert my parents' 8mm reels into digital format. Unfortunately, not all of them could be salvaged. But I took the footage which was salvageable and put together this video as a tribute to my father.
These clips are not in chronological order and I'm not able to post locations or ship names either. I only know the name of the ship my dad spent the most time on -- the USS Robison (a destroyer).
Sadly, my dad passed away in 1992 and my mom died in 2005. I'm therefore not able to ask either of them for more details.
This is a labor of love -- a tribute from my heart to a dad I miss.
If you wish to peer into the past, this video is for you as it features actual 8mm footage from the 1960s.
Enjoy!
