"The Six Triple Eight" tells the true story of courageous women from the first and only Women's Army Corps unit of color sent overseas during World War II. It highlights the vital role played by the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, an all-black and all-female unit, during the war. This battalion made history as the first and only Women's Army Corps unit of color to serve in Europe. Being based on a true story, they arrived in Europe in February 1945; the 855 women of the 6888th faced a massive challenge: sorting through a backlog of 17 million pieces of mail, many with wrong or missing addresses, and they were tasked with getting it all shipped out in just six months. Despite facing discrimination and the challenges of a war-torn country, they successfully sorted over 17 million pieces of mail ahead of schedule.
The Six Triple Eight cast members include Kerry Washington, Sam Waterston, Susan Sarandon, Oprah Winfrey, and more. "The Six Triple Eight" will be in select theaters on Dec. 6 and stream on Netflix on Dec. 20.
