900 metres more for the course of the Thaya river as well as a cross-border coordinated approach of Austrian and Czech experts in the field of water and nature conservation - these are the results of the project "Thaya 2020" carried out within the current EU programme "Interreg V-A Austria - Czech Republic".
Highlight is the reconnection of three river loops in Bernhardsthal and Rabensburg that were cut off in the 1970s and 80s. This was made possible by EU funding of almost 1.8 million euros. The project partners are the Czech water management company Povodí Moravy, via donau - Österreichische Wasserstraßen-Gesellschaft, the Austrian Federal Environment Agency, the TG Masaryk Water Research Institute and the Austrian National Park Thayatal.
The programme "Interreg V-A Austria - Czech Republic" currently supports 60 projects with 324 participating project partners - from universities and museums to municipalities and associations - in the project regions of Lower Austria, Vienna and Upper Austria and in the Czech Republic (South Bohemia, South Moravia and Vysočina).
