Testimony continues Tuesday with Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) use of force training expert Lt. Johnny Mercil taking the stand. Lt. Mercil is testifying on martial arts, body control and pain compliance, and will be questioned on Derek Chauvin and the level of force he used in detaining George Floyd.
Court opened Tuesday with prosecutors calling Minneapolis police Sgt. Ker Yang, the department's Crisis Intervention Training Coordinator. Yang is a law enforcement veteran who has worked his way up through MPD during a 24-year career. He is an expert in critical thinking models, and using them to teach crisis intervention techniques.
Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo, who fired Derek Chauvin and three other officers following the death of George Floyd, took the stand Monday to testify that Chauvin's use of force against Floyd was a violation of departmental policy.
Before Arradondo was called, Dr. Bradford Langenfeld took the stand to describe his attempt to resuscitate George Floyd when an ambulance crew brought him to HCMC.

Chauvin faces three charges, second-degree murder, second-degree manslaughter and third-degree murder in the death of George Floyd, who died in police custody in May 2020.
