If you've been to the Grand Canyon, then you are sure to have been wowed by the magnificence, size and grandeur of millions of years of sedimentary layers having been gradually eroded by the Colorado River. When Americans say "We have one like that back home, but it's much bigger!", which they so often do, they have the absolute right to say that when they refer to the Grand Canyon.
It's not quite the same scale at all, but Earth Forest is a wonderful mini version of same that is well worth the visit if you're in the Yunnan province China.
Yet another example of same can be visited in Australia - and if you visited King's Canyon which is three hours drive from Uluru, you know what we are talking about. For that matter, there is one on along the South coast of Turkey too.
On the day that we visited here, it was well on the way to being 40 degrees Celsius. That's quite a warm day and it's recommended that you wear appropriate clothing, take water, and prepare yourself with sunblock.
The Earth Forest is a little hard to get to, you are probably going to hire a car and have taken a 2.5 hour trip from Kunming to get there.
At the time of publishing, the entrance fee was 70 RMB per person. That is roughly equivalent to $10 USD or $14 dollars AUD.
It's no surprise to find this tourist attraction and natural geology as part of a tourist park which has been developed to accommodate many more people than it typically receives. On the day that we visited, there were perhaps only 100 people in the park at the time. It's a little bit funny to see that infrastructure, parking, outlets, buildings, etc. have been prepared for perhaps 1000 people at a time.
Don't be surprised when you see this here or other places in China. Facilities are so ready for tourists but have yet to arrive in the forecast numbers. It's a common sight across China.
What do you think? You've been to the Grand Canyon? What did you think of the Grand Canyon? Do you think this is anywhere near as good?
