On 1 July 2021, Portugal handed over the Presidency of the Council of the EU to Slovenia, which will hold its reigns for the second time since its accession to the EU in 2004.
During the next six months, the Slovenian Presidency will have to sail through troubled waters to address some of the most pressing EU issues, such as the recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, the implementation of the European Green Deal, the digital agenda and EU’s relations with its external partners.
To scrutinise the priorities and challenges of the Presidency, TEPSA and its Slovenian member institute, Centre of International Relations (CIR) – University of Ljubljana, hosted the Slovenian Pre-Presidency Conference on 17 and 18 June 2021
TEPSA formulates recommendations to the Council Presidencies before they take office. TEPSA recommendations are formally presented to representatives and high-level officials of the incoming Presidency at the TEPSA Pre-Presidency Conferences. At #PPCLjubljana, Dr. Funda Tekin, co-director of Institut für Europäische Politik, the TEPSA Member Institute from Germany, presents TEPSA's Recommendations to Slovenian State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Mag. Gašper Dovžan.
The Slovenian Presidency is well advised to aim at accomplishing three things:
- Stepping on the gas for the accelerated digital era,
- Step up its actions to promote energy transition in third countries ,
- Reviving EU enlargement by fostering reform.
