Welcome to Bowlers Paradise!
If you do this bowling thing long enough, it becomes pretty easy to predict what the next release from a manufacturer is going to be, but not this time. Hammer surprised the heck out of me with the announcement of this Envy Tour, and I couldn’t have been more excited. Following in the footsteps of the highly successful obsession tour, the envy tour is powered inside by unique obsession tour core but wrapped in the black envy solid cover finished to very dull 1000 grit out of the box
I wasn’t lucky enough to have thrown the obsession tour, but I always liked the shape when I saw it go down the lane for others, which I believe is most due to the core design. Rarely do we get low differential asymmetrical options from any of the manufacturers, but this is the kind of strong benchmark piece I love to see. With that, we put a 4.5x5x2 2LS layout on it as that has become my go to layout for a benchmark type of reaction.
And on the lanes, well, I think these results speak for themselves. This ball was just really, really good on this fresh house shot. I was able to strike from all parts of the lane, it was wonderfully responsive and predictable when changing hand positions, and the continuation through the pins was great. The cover is definitely still strong, but the limited differential kept it from being too much. simply put, It was everything I wanted this piece to be.
The unique core dynamics are something I would like to see in more releases. So many companies have made .045 basically their minimum differential and asyms are only getting more asymmetrical. This envy tour with its limited core numbers though is a call back to the way bowling balls used to shape and similar to the 3D offset, it still works and works really well as the lower differential for me almost always means its less likely to roll out.
When considering the downsides of this piece, the first few games with it out of the box it was too much. Shipping this piece at 1000 grit is overkill but once it lane shined a bit, it came to life. This is a similar result to what we saw with the HAmmer Dark Web and the Brunswick Knock Out Bruiser, but seeing as how they all seem to work really well once the covers shine up a bit, maybe there’s some science behind the really dull surface.
But in any case, here’s the two types of bowlers I think will match up really well with this piece. The first is rev dominant bowlers. Typically covers this strong only come with really strong cores inside and tend to be unusable, but the weaker core under this very strong envy cover makes it possible for those with a lot of hand. The second is tournament bowlers. The obsession tour was one of the most successful pieces at nationals over the last couple years, and this envy tour is the next generation of that performance which will work for just about anyone seeking to compete at the highest levels.
The all new Hammer Envy Tour takes the newest level of performance from Hammer to the next level and when you have this black beast on the rack, your competition is sure to be envious of the scores you put up.
