Continuing our journey through the northern half of Portugal we arrive at Barcelos, on the banks of the Cávado River, the city where the legend of the rooster is born, which has become one of the symbols of Portugal. In Barcelos we can visit the Ceramics Museum, or the large square where the Town Hall and the Church of Santa María la Mayor are located. On the banks of the river and with a beautiful panoramic view of it and the medieval bridge we find the remains of the Palace of the Counts of Barcelos, today converted into an open-air Archaeological Museum. After walking through the streets and small squares surrounded by colorful houses we arrive at the Torre da Porta Nova, one of the old entrances to the city, and outside of which we find a large square, beautifully decorated with gardens and fountains, in front of the Temple of Good Jesus of the Cross. We then moved to Braga, the oldest city in Portugal, first visiting the Sanctuary of Bom Jesús do Monte, a beautiful place of pilgrimage, and whose climb, the final stretch of which is a beautiful staircase, is well worth it. You will enjoy a place of relaxation and with an impressive panoramic view over Braga. Already in Braga, and with the weather getting worse, after passing under the Arco da Porta Nova we begin the visit to the old town, where we can visit, among others, the Praça do Municipio where the beautiful baroque-style town hall and the cathedral, which is the oldest in the country. We end the visit in the great Praça da República, considered the heart of the city, whose center at the top is occupied by a large circular fountain surrounded by beautiful buildings
