Richly woven with ritual and symbolism, Mozart's final operatic masterpiece is a delightful yet profound look at man's quest for love, wisdom, and virtue. Enter an enchanted world where a noble prince searches for his beautiful princess, a blundering bird-catcher seeks a mate, and an evil queen schemes against the forces of good. Directors Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier—well known to Festival audiences for numerous productions since their U.S. debut with Salome in 1987—reveal the humanity and depth of character to magical effect as reason triumphs over chaos in this most beloved of Mozart's operas. Set design by Christian Fenouillat with costumes by Agostino Cavalca and lighting by Christophe Forey. Steven Sloane will conduct the Spoleto Festival USA Orchestra.
