In Parashat Pinchas the Torah says that because Pinchas demonstrated an act of righteousness by killing Zimri for his sinful act of immorality that G-d gave him His Covenant of Peace: הנני נתן לו את־בריתי שלום (Num 25:12). In the Torah scroll we discover that the letter Vav [ו] in the word Shalom [שלום] is cut in half. According to the Sages, whenever the letter Vav is cut in half it is called a ו׳ קְטִיעָא, which means a Vav that is cut in half. When the word Shalom [שלום] is spelled with a ו׳ קְטִיעָא it allows the word Shalom [שלום] to be read as שלם which means wholeness and harmony. Join Yehezqel Italqi as he explains that because Pinchas was willing to be cut in half like the ו׳ קְטִיעָא it allowed him to receive G-d’s Covenant of Peace in Zealous for HaShem.
