Barry Allan - Managing Director, Research at Laurentian Bank Securities
In this short presentation, Barry provides his thoughts on where we are at in the commodities and mining cycle. Barry describes how he uses Major Drilling, a publicly traded drilling company with an international presence in the mining space, as a proxy for the demand for mining companies for exploration and drilling. Barry believes mining is back and that the cycle likely bottomed in the spring of 2016 based on using Major Drilling's revenue as a proxy. Barry also identifies that flow through capital raised, which represents the appetite of risk-takers in early exploration, has been trending upwards since 2016 and based on 2021 so far, is potentially on pace for a record year.

Barry Allan joined Laurentian Bank Securities Inc. in March 2017 as a Mining Analyst, and has more than 30 years of experience in capital markets and investment research. Barry has been consistently ranked among the top 10 precious metal analysts in North America by various rating agencies, and continues to focus on the investment analysis of producers and explorers for gold and silver. Prior to capital markets, Barry worked as an exploration geologist for a number of different mining companies. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree (Honours) and an MBA, both from Dalhousie University, and he is a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Bankers (FICB).
