Keukenhof is such an iconic sight in Netherland in regards to the famous windmills. Known as Gardens of Europe, Keukenhof is one of the world’s largest flower gardens and probably the most beautiful spring flower garden in the world. Definitely, a must-visit place while you are in Amsterdam in Spring, and your Amsterdam itinerary can’t be complete without it
If you’ve ever looked into visiting the Netherlands, then you know that the best time to visit is during the tulip season, which occurs from mid-March to mid-May. During this time, Amsterdam tulips fields are in full bloom and totally majestic. The Keukenhof Gardens is one of the best places to see these lovely spring flowers in action. Keukenhof Gardens is actually located in the town of Lisse, approximately thirty minutes from the center of Amsterdam. It is one of the world’s largest flower gardens, where more than 7 million flower bulbs are planted each year.


From the 10 miles (15 km) hiking trails of Keukenhof you will have a spectacular view of the flower gardens. During your walk you will see unique, weekly changing flower shows, beautiful ponds and various pavilions with various restaurants and terraces. It is your chance to make the most beautiful selfie and flowers photos. In addition to the huge flower garden, the flower park is also the largest statue garden of the Netherlands. Every year the flower park is dedicated to a specific theme. The inspiration gardens, events and artworks are adjusted accordingly. Keukenhof has chosen not to focus on one theme in 2023 but to work with multiple themes. The flower shows and inspiration gardens will thus become even more varied.
Keukenhof Tulip Gardens is open from March 23 till 14 May 2023. It’s the best day out among the tulips near Amsterdam Every year, more than 7 million flower bulbs are planted by hand in the autumn to flower in spring. There is a variety of 800 different tulips. A unique and unforgettable experience for everyone.

Keukenhof is open throughout the year for private events and festivals, but is only open to the public for a short eight-week period in the spring, typically from mid-March to mid-May. In 2023, the Keukenhof gardens are open from March 23 to May 14. The best time to visit the garden depends on the Dutch weather - but generally the peak visiting times are in April.. Tickets are in sale now and cost €19 for adults and €9 for ages 4-17 chindren up to 3 is free. Parking is 6€. For 2023, tickets must be purchased online, in advance. You cannot buy them at the entrance. Tickets are sold for a specific date and arrival time, so you must determine which day is best for you in advance.
Established in 1949, the original purpose was as a means of stimulating the local economy. The mayor at the time desired to help the Dutch export industry by creating this exhibit. It was a showcase where both local and European flower growers could display their hybrids. The gardens only open for a short time every year, typically from late March to late May, if you can plan your trip accordingly you should be able to witness their grandeur. The reason for this short window is because of the short time from which its millions of tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths are at their peak beauty. Each autumn, a team of 40 gardeners work to plant the 7 million bulbs, which are donated to the park by over 100 growers. The planting season, which lasts from October until the beginning of December, is unsurprisingly a major task, as the planters use various tricks in order to ensure the gardens are in bloom for the entire time Keukenhof is open.
The park consists of many gardens and four pavilions where the whole history and tradition of Tulip cultivation in the Netherlands. In the park there is a fantastic collection of: tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, orchids, roses, carnations, irises, lilies and many other flowers. You will be overwhelmed by a spectacle of colors and perfumes.
The main attraction of Keukenhof is obviously the flowers but the park is truly a destination for visitors of all ages. Small children will enjoy the various playgrounds while a full-scale windmill, public art, and performances, as well as special displays add further entertainment to visitors of all ages.

Keukenhof is also very nice for children. They can enjoy the treasure hunt, the petting zoo, the maze and the playground. For the little ones, there is also a Miffy playground. A visit to the flower park is a nice day out for the whole family.

The first spring flower exhibition took place there in 1950 and had no less than 236,000 visitors. Every year now, about 100 flower growers exhibit their bulbs and flowers in beautiful garden designs and flower shows.
