At this point, maybe you've retained us or another law firm and they've drafted a complaint, you've signed it, and it's been filed with the court. Once your spouse is served with divorce papers, they have 30 days to answer that complaint. If they don't answer in 30 days, the lawyer can take some additional action. More likely, they will answer or they will get an attorney to show up for them, and they'll either file an answer or get an extension, so you to have to be a little bit patient and knowing that nothing can happen until they can have time to respond to the North Carolina divorce papers.
