This video covers the tragic story behind Andree's Arctic expedition. In July 1897, there was an attempt to reach the north pole by three expedition members from Sweden named Salomon August Andrée, Nils Strindberg and Knut Frænkel. They had planned to fly a hydrogen balloon to either Canada or Russia from Svalbard, which will take them above the North Pole on the way with some luck. However, due to loss of hydrogen from the balloon, they crashed over pack ice after a little over two days of flight. Although the three weren't hurt, and all their equipment were in tact after the crash, they weren't prepared for the gruesome journey that would follow in the next few months.
