EU Commissioner Maros Sefcovic met with Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis in Kehrsatz near Bern on Wedensday.
The meeting was supposed to take place this summer, but was cancelled at the last minute, as the negotiating positions were apparently too far apart.
On Wednesday, the discussions between Ignazio Cassis and Maros Sefcovic were expected to focus on the amount of the cohesion contribution. Switzerland pays this contribution to the EU in order to have partial access to the European internal market.
Switzerland was also hoping that the EU will grant its clarification on the application of a safeguard clause against excessive immigration of workers from the EU but neither Cassis nor Sefcovic has commented on this.
The working meeting was held at the Lohn estate near Bern, the FDFA said. A joint dinner is planned after the meeting.
