The February 27 assembly by-election to Tamil Nadu’s Erode East seat—the first since the triumph of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in the 2021 state polls, is prestigious both for the ruling party as well as the rival All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) since it is the first since the restoration of the popular ‘Two Leaves’ poll symbol to the Opposition party by the Election Commission (EC).
