In this video, Dr. Sidika Kajtezovic, an OB/GYN resident at Boston Medical Center, discusses how the timing of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination relative to other adolescent vaccinations impacts timely series completion. The study used a national sample of 100,857 U.S. adolescents ages 9 to 13 to assess the impact of initiating the HPV vaccine before, after, or at the same time as receiving Tdap or meningococcal vaccines. Dr. Kajtezovic also notes that the HPV vaccination is cancer prevention, and it is important to continue to address barriers and increase vaccination rates.
Kajtezovic's is one of the initial articles on initiating HPV vaccination at age nine that will be published over the coming months and featured by the HPV Vaccination Roundtable. The complete collection will be a part of the Special Issues of Human Vaccines and Immunotherapeutics.
