This #DisabilityHistoryMonth, we're celebrating Beyond the Visual – a 3-year pioneering initiative in collaboration with Henry Moore Institute and Shape Arts that challenges the dominance of sight in experiencing art.
Led by Dr. Ken Wilder, Professor of Aesthetics at the University of the Arts London, and Dr. Aaron McPeake, artist and Associate Lecturer at @chelseaual, Beyond the Visual celebrates blind and partially blind artists while reshaping how we can all engage with art in museums.
In November 2025, the project culminates in a landmark exhibition and public engagement programme at the Henry Moore Institute, Leeds. The project is supported by the inaugural Arts and Humanities Research Council Exhibition Fund.
At UAL, creativity drives change, and Beyond the Visual is paving the way for more inclusive, accessible museums of the future.

Audio description:
The video begins with a large bronze metal eye test chart hanging from a ceiling being struck by a thick stick to produce gong sounds. The scene transitions to individual shots of Ken and Aaron talking while seated on a sofa, set against a white background with colourful paintings on the wall. Additional clips show Ken and Aaron looking at imagery on a computer screen, interspersed with images of people touching and engaging with various sculptures.
