The Naga King, Muchalinda sheltered the Buddha from a violent storm prior to the Buddha becoming enlightened
The Buddha is in the bhumisparsha mudra or the earth touching gesture with his left hand resting in his lap in the dhyana mudra of meditation
This style Buddha is called Phra Naga Prok which is the Buddha for protection and is also known as the Saturday Buddha
The sculpture is covered in a layer of beautiful antique real gold leaf, in temples throughout Thailand, Buddha statues are covered with gold leaf by devotees who put the gold leaf on the statue as a way to gain merit
