Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, architect of Pakistan's nuclear programme, died on October 10. 85-year-old Khan was brought to the hospital on October 9 night after his health deteriorated, reported Geo News. Reportedly, Khan died at the hospital after his lungs collapsed, severely damaged by Covid-19 infection. He contracted the disease last month. He was revered in Pakistan as the “father” of the country’s “atom bomb” & as a national hero for making Pakistan a nuclear power. Imran Khan, Pakistan Prime Minister tweeted, “Deeply saddened by the passing of Dr AQ Khan. He was loved by our nation because of his critical contribution in making us a nuclear weapon state.” Parvez Khattak, Pakistan Defence Minister tweeted, “Great loss!
