Scientists have reported the Moderna vaccine appears to work against newer and more infectious variants of the virus found in the UK and South Africa.
A study of eight people who received two doses of the vaccine concluded the antibodies triggered by the vaccine could recognise and fight the new variants.
However, the company confirmed it appears to be less protective against the strain discovered in South Africa.
A new form of the vaccine is being developed which could be used as a booster shot against that virus.
