This is the 2020 BMW 118i M Sport Sports hatch with 5 doors, it’s got some new changes since the last 1 series, it’s front wheel drive, it’s slightly wider which allows for more leg room, it’s a little higher and longer too and not everyone is happy with the changes but I think it still looks nice, sporty, BMW has striked a balance between an aggressive looking car and a family friendly 5 door hatch back with a lot of BMW’s design DNA. The grill is big and I like all the angles here. This version here is the Alpine white, but where I really want to make this video about is the tech inside and outside that makes it one to consider.
Number 1: Entertainment and Sound System; It has a harman/karden set up and if you’ve ever listened to one, you’ll know that it sounds fantastic, It fills the car and it can be tweaked, If you’re advanced you can adjust the equalization and if not, you can do the basic bass and treble adjustments; you can even adjust the surround sound audio. It caters for all music genre too. The big display has the latest BMW operating system, it’s touch screen and the infotainment system comes with DAB, Bluetooth, FM and you can connect via USB so you can use Apple car play or Android Auto which is pretty neat.
Number 2: connectivity; The reason why I mention this is that BMW has included ample amount of USB ports and not just USB ports, they are USB C, which brings BMW up to date with the latest smartphones out there today, I mean, even the iPad Pro from Apple uses USB C now and if you have one of the latest MacBook Pros, you will be able to charge your laptop on the move. You also get a wireless charging plate and I love where it’s placed because you could have google maps on your screen and not need to buy a separate phone holder.
Number 3: Share keys with others: With he 1 Series, you will be able to unlock your car with some compatible Samsung devices out there and if you need to share keys with your family member you can also do so. That is a very neat trick.
Number 4: Safety and driving assist: When parking, you can use reverse park assist to help you get out of a space all with a single push of a button and will cover you up to 50 yards. At first I wasn’t sure how useful this would be until I was in a position where it was needed. It remembers you maneuver and will repeat it with no issue. You also get all kinda of safety features such as lane assist, lane departure warning, front collision warning and more. They can be adjusted and tweaked also to suit your driving style.
Number 5: HUD and gestures: Whilst this version didn’t have the hand gesture controls, you can add the extra which allows you to do things like change music track using hand gestures. Another is voice control that works a little like google assistant, allowing you to ask for a location using your voice for example. You can even name it so instead of just hey BMW, it could become hey GadgetsBoy. The Heads up display is also really cool; it’s not just a simple display showing basic information, it’s a colourful, visible, non-distracting display that can show direction, speed warnings, you can even view your music library and more on there.
