In this video, I look at the new Overclock feature in Ingress.
Whilst the feature isn't without its glitches (see the start and the end), I enjoyed this addition to the game. I like the idea that you can do the equivalent of 4 glyph hacks in one go which would potentially save masses of time resource farming. I also, didn't feel too ridiculous doing it despite being in quite a busy area (although I would be much more comfortable without any people around).
So what is Overclock?
It's a new feature that allows you to glyph in AR. You use your camera to view the point of interest and it will calibrate with your game. It then allows you to place a 4D glyph module in AR which you circle using your phone camera to work out the glyph before tapping the glyph button and entering your answer. You do this up to 5 times depending on the level of the portal and it will give you a large bonus if you get the glyphs correct (something I fail miserably to do in this video - sorry...).
What do you need to know?
1. One Overclock hack will burn out a portal.
2. Multihacks will allow you to perform more than one Overclock hack.
3. Heatsinks will reset the portal and allow you to hack it again like normal.
4. Daily hack bonuses do not stack. So you will not get 2 times the 4 times output of an Overclock hack. Instead you will get 4 + 1 times the output for a daily streak hack and 4 + 2 times the output for a seven day streak hack.
5. Frackers do however stack and will give you the 2 times the 4 times output of an Overclock hack.
6. You need to have Niantic Lightship AR mode turned on in your Settings to use Overclock.
7. A portal needs 10 good scans to enable Overclock hacking. Even with 10 good scans, this is not a guarantee.
8. If a portal has 10 good scans but still isn't Overclock enabled in the game, you can go onto the Niantic Wayfarer Ap and request for the portal to be enabled. On this App you will find out how many good scans a portal already has.
9. Your request will be dealt with between 4-24 hours (supposedly) and again, there is no guarantee that those good scans cover enough of the portal to put it into the game.
10. My experience today told me that portals that can be walked around fully, are more likely to be Overclock enabled.
11. Overclock hacking is very hard but something fun to play around with and great for resource gathering.
