FBI Director Christopher Wray announced his plans to resign at the end of President Joe Biden's term.
Wray told bureau employees on Wednesday he would be stepping down "after weeks of careful thought," reported the Associated Press.
This comes after President-elect Donald Trump picked Kash Patel, a close ally and former national security aide who has criticized the Justice Department and the media, to replace Wray.
Wray was previously named by Trump and began the 10-year term in 2017, after Trump fired then-FBI Director James Comey.
