A quick and easy way for you to test your tyre tread, and to see if exceeds the minimum legal tread depth is to take the 20p test.

Take a 20p coin and place it into the main tread grooves of your tyre. If the outer band of the coin is hidden when it is inserted, then your tread is above the legal limit. However, if the outer band of the coin is visible, then your tyres may not be legal and not road worthy and should be checked straightaway by a qualified tyre professional.

When you are doing this test, remember to check at least three areas around each tyre. This is a quick and easy test, and to ensure your safety check your tyres at least once a month.
