Prince William, Sir David Attenborough and The Earthshot Prize Council introduce The Earthshot Prize.

Every year from 2021 until 2030, Prince William, alongside a panel of Prize Council Members, will award The Earthshot Prize to five winners whose evidence-based solutions make the most progress towards repairing our planet.

The Earthshot Prize is centred around five ‘Earthshots’ – simple but ambitious goals, underpinned by scientifically agreed targets, which if achieved by 2030 will improve life for us all, for generations to come. They are focused on climate, nature, air, oceans and waste.

Over the last ten years, the evidence that we face urgent challenges to protect the environment has become indisputable, and it’s clear that the time to act is now. Drawing inspiration from the concept of moonshots, which since the moon landing in 1969 has become shorthand to talk about the most ambitious and ground-breaking goals, Prince William announced The Earthshot Prize: an ambitious set of challenges to inspire a decade of action to repair the planet.

We believe in the power of human ingenuity to prove to us all that the seemingly impossible is possible.
