The familiar lakes in the Aravalli hills skirting south Delhi may be disappearing, but some new water bodies are popping up in the region that has been ravaged by mining in recent years.
Panikot Lake is a pristine quarry lake located just off the Ballabhgarh-Sohna highway close to Village Alampur. The last stretch leading upto the lake is pure off road with rubble and sharp stones. Area is lonely and hence advisable to go in groups. Not advisable to swim in the lake though it is tempting as the waters are supposed to be very deep. Surroundings are clean and un-spoilt with sum stunning landscape and vistas. Really well worth a visit especially on early winter mornings! No car or SUV will be able to reach the edge of the lake- either you walk or use a motorbike. This place can not be found on the map. The locals will guide you to the water body and once you reach there, it's so serene and untouched. It was beautiful, just loved uncovering a lake that was hidden.
