If there's one thing that will derail your plans in Juneau, Alaska, it's the unpredictable weather. The chances that your tours will be cancelled at some point during your trip are unfortunately, quite high, and you may suddenly find yourself needing some things to do while weathered in . So, if your excursions are cancelled due to fog, rain, or storm, don't fret: there's plenty of things to do and explore outside of your cramped hotel room. In this video, I take you around to some of the best rainy day attractions and experiences in Juneau, Alaska that can be enjoyed in any weather. Though you might be lucky like I was and have perfect weather during your entire trip, it's worth keeping this ultimate guide in your back pocket, just in case the storms begin to brew!
I begin my "rainy day adventures" on a perfect sunny day, ironically, beginning with the Heritage Coffee Roasters. This locally-owned roastery is a beloved institution in Juneau, and their coffee can be found everywhere around the city. After, consider checking out the Alaska State Capitol for a self-guided audio tour, then head to the Juneau--Douglas City Museum to learn all about Alaska's capital city. From there, head to the Alaska State Musuem to learn about this incredible state in great depth. Next, I headed to the DIPAC Macaulay Salmon Hatchery to see the hundreds of thousands of salmon that make their way back to the hatchery. Witnessing the huge salmon climb their way up the salmon ladder and into the hatchery is an incredible sight to behold in any weather! Also be sure to check out the near one million tadpoles stored in the massive indoor tanks as they grow and become ready to be released into the wild! Next, I head to the Alaskan Brewing Company to sample some of the state's finest beers, then take a tour into the 19th century AJ Mine to learn all about Juneau's mining history. I end my day with some amazing views of Auke Bay from the charming Forbidden Peak Brewery.
