For any new or seasoned hobbyist, stripping and raising baby fish can be very fulfilling. Any hobbyist at some point wants to experience the process either for fun or can become intrigued at a level that they attempt raising fish to support their hobby or make a living from it. Raising fish for a living can be a extremely tough task and a commitment most are not willing to make.

From this video that you can see that raising cichlid fry is not that complicated. Thanks to the female parent, if you let your her hold the babies long enough, the end product will be a bunch of fully developed little fish. If you are using an egg tumbler, you can strip the female much sooner. I have found that my success rate with a tumbler is very high. Most eggs will develop with no issue, unless they have not been properly fertilized. To avoid the unfertile eggs, let the female carry the mouthful a little longer and don't strip the day after you see her holding. It can take a few attempts with both parents to complete the task. If you let the female swim around for at least a week after breeding, then there is a good chance all the eggs she is holding will be fertilized and healthy.
