Protests continued at the John F. Kennedy (JFK) airport on Monday against the executive order signed by U.S. President Donald Trump Friday to temporarily bar all refugees and people from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States.
Countries subjecting to the ban are Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen, which are "countries with terrorism concerns" as were called by Trump.
Because of the ban, 48 were detained at the JFK airport on Sunday.
The protesters chanted the slogan "No wall, no ban, New York City is for all" and held up signs reading "No racism". Some believe the ban is prejudiced, because not all Muslims are terrorists.
Some of my friends may be Catholics or Christians or whatever maybe, it doesn't matter what you believe. It's New York, everyone wants the same thing. We love our families, our neighbors and we just want to be happy and secure in life," said a protester.
"Muslim ban is not good, it is not good. Why have Muslim ban? Not every Muslim people is a terrorist, no. There're bad people. Muslim people, Christian people and Buddhist people, every people have bad people. Not all people are terrorists. Muslim is very peaceful," said a taxi driver.
Some protesters said the decision has ignored human rights and some staunch supporters of Trump feel disappointed.
"We feel and regard that the decisions Mr. Trump take, I think is a discrimination. We feel like a citizen of second class. We think this government has started to take human rights away slowly," said another protester.
"To last week, it was a free country. Now, it is not a free country. Everything has changed. I was happy for Trump seriously, I was in his side. I am not with the Clinton. I do not know why he changed that much and do what he [wants to] do," said a protester.
Trump's travel ban, widely described as a "Muslim ban," has caused confusion and chaos across the country and drawn widespread concern and criticism from across the world.
