Part 2 of the 2019 ARTES Nigel Glendinning Lecture by Dr Javier Barón, Senior Curator of 19th Century Painting at the Museo del Prado in Madrid, recorded at the Instituto Cervantes in London. In his vivid account of the impact Velázquez and El Greco had on modern art, we see how 19th and 20th century artists from Goya and Manet to Picasso, Pollock and Bacon looked to the extraordinary works of these two masters in their search for expression and innovation.
