In this video, you’ll see mausoleums that hold anywhere from one to thousands of bodies and cremated remains in public (community) and private mausoleums. Private mausoleums are for individual families and are built on the family’s plot in a cemetery. They contain burial crypts for each casket and sometimes niches for urns and ashes. Their burial capacity is limited by the size of mausoleum. and you will rarely see more than 16 individuals interred in a private mausoleum. Public mausoleums are built on cemetery or church grounds. These are large buildings with indoor spaces for crypts and niches for unrelated families. They can also be burial walls with crypts and niches on the outside. Columbaria are typically outdoor structures where individuals are inurred in niches for ashes and urns only.
A mausoleum is a free-standing building used to enshrine and protect the burial chambers and coffins of the deceased, typically above ground. Types of mausoleums include private mausoleums, public or community mausoleums. Specialized mausoleum types include single crypt mausoleums, family mausoleums, companion crypts, columbaria, and sarcophagus mausoleums.
