Darwinism vs Truth. Postmodernism is a widespread belief held on many college campuses today. Postmodernists deny the existence of objective truth and hold that truth is relative to each person. As PBS states "postmodernism is highly skeptical of explanations which claim to be valid (true) for all groups, cultures, traditions, or races, and instead focuses on the relative truths of each person.” Yet Postmodernism sows the seeds of its own destruction in that Postmodernists have lost any grounds in which they can claim their worldview is more objectively true than any other worldview that it seeks to replace. Moreover, Postmodernism finds it roots in Darwinian evolution. In her article "How Darwinism Dumbs Us Down" Nancy Pearcey outlines the progression from Darwinism to 'postmodern pragmatism' and also outlines how "Darwinism undercuts the very possibility of rational truth". Thus the primary source of the denial of objective truth in postmodernism is none other than Darwin's theory itself. in her article "Why Evolutionary Theory Cannot Survive Itself" Nancy Pearcey further points out "Eric Baum says, “Sometimes you are more likely to survive and propagate if you believe a falsehood than if you believe the truth.” Steven Pinker writes, “Our brains were shaped for fitness, not for truth. Sometimes the truth is adaptive, but sometimes it is not.” The upshot is that survival is no guarantee of truth. If survival is the only standard, we can never know which ideas are true and which are adaptive but false." Richard Dawkins also admits as much when he stated "Since we are creatures of natural selection, we cannot totally trust our senses. Evolution only passes on traits that help a species survive, and not concerned with preserving traits that tell a species what is actually true about life." To state the obvious, since Darwinism denies the existence of objective truth, then that forever precludes Darwinian evolution from ever being objectively true. In conclusion, the primary source of the denial of objective truth in postmodernism is none other than Darwin's theory itself. And the denial of the existence of objective truth forever prevents Darwin's theory from being objectively true. Of supplemental note, "The argument from Truth" is an ancient philosophical argument for the existence of God that comes mainly from Augustine, "1. Our limited minds can discover eternal truths about being. 2. Truth properly resides in a mind. 3. But the human mind is not eternal. 4. Therefore there must exist an eternal mind in which these truths reside." Also of supplemental note, other religions claim to point you to the truth, but only Christianity claims to be source of objective truth! In his article "IS JESUS THE ONLY WAY TO GOD?" Terran Williams states “If you were to take Mohammed out of Islam, and Buddha out of Buddhism, and Confucius out of Confucianism you would still have a faith system that was relatively in tact. However, taking Christ out of Christianity sinks the whole faith completely. This is because Jesus centered the faith on himself. He said, “This is what it means to have eternal life: to know God the Father and Jesus Christ whom the Father sent” (John 17:3). “I am the light of the world” (John 8:12). Buddha, before dying, said in effect, “I am still seeking for the truth.” Mohammed said in effect, “I point you to the truth.” Jesus said, “I am the truth.” Jesus claimed to not only give the truth, but to be the very personal embodiment of it.”
