When we were searching for Iceland car rental companies on a budget, we came across Blue Car Rental.
One thing that immediately stood out was Blue Car Rental’s competitive rates. The total cost of renting from Blue Car Rental was at least 10% to 20% cheaper compared to its large competitors. Their rates also included a super collision damage waiver, theft protection and gravel protection. Many car rental companies in Iceland do not include some of these insurances in their quotes.
Blue Car Rental has been operating since 2010 and it is the largest local car rental company in Iceland. Blue Car Rental offers the newest fleet of a wide range of vehicles. Their office is located in Keflavik International Airport. They also have a car rental office in Reykjavik.
Overall, we had a smooth and enjoyable experience with Blue Car Rental. Besides competitive rates, the company offers free cancellations, zero deposit and 24/7 road assistance.
In this video, we also cover types of insurances that you should consider for your Iceland Ring Road trip. Gravel protection insurance is one of the most important one. We had a small accident of gravel hitting our car from a passing vehicle on a road to Dettifoss waterfall.
The other important insurance is ash and sand protection. This insurance is a must, if you plan on travelling from January through April. Sandstorms are common in Southern Iceland in winter and early spring. If your trip is in summer, the likelihood of a sandstorm is very low. When we were in Iceland in June, there were no sandstorms.

There were several items we were very glad we prepared ahead of time:
► Power Bank Portable Charger by Anker: [ Ссылка ]. Sometimes, we needed to charge out devices and did not have an outlet available. We chose this Anker power bank for its large capacity and ability to get charged by 2 USB inputs, which recharge the power bank 2x faster.
► Travel Outlet Adapter Kit: [ Ссылка ]. This is a must have item when traveling abroad. This adapter is ETL listed and was tested to North American safety standards. We avoid buying electronics that are not UL or ETL listed and tested for safety.
► Car USB Charger for Phones: [ Ссылка ]. Given how much time we spent on Ring road, we opted to have a dedicated car charger for our devices. While rental cars may have USB charging ports, they are sometimes slow to charge.
► Phone Mount for Car: [ Ссылка ]. In case you don't have one, we highly recommend it for your trip to Iceland. We took our phone mount with us and it saved us a lot of headaches.
