Abandoned oil and gas wells can cause toxins and dangerous greenhouse gasses to leak into water supplies and, in some extreme cases, cause explosions. They are often left unplugged by companies that are long out of business. Nearly five million people live within a half mile of an abandoned well. NBC News’ Cynthia McFadden has the investigation.
