Hello! Welcome. In today’s video, we will talk about the concept of grit by Angela Duckworth and how it can be applied in everyday life.
Grit is a desirable, non-cognitive quality in psychology that is based on a person's dedication to and passion for a certain long-term goal or strong drive to accomplish a task. This dedication to effort encourages the surmounting of hurdles or barriers that stand in the way of success and acts as a catalyst for success.
Pioneering psychologist Angela Duckworth demonstrates to parents, educators, students, and businesspeople that the key to exceptional achievement is not talent but a focused tenacity known as grit in this must-read book for anybody aspiring to success.
According to Duckworth, grit is the desire and ongoing tenacity used to achieve long-term goals without much thought given to rewards or recognition along the way. In order to achieve goals that take months, years, or even decades, it combines resilience, ambition, and self control.
▶️ Five Key Characteristics of Grit are:
• courage
• conscientiousness
• perseverance
• resilience
• passion
Grit is said to consist of two things: discovering your passion and overcoming challenges. Many people concentrate on the second half, continuing to work for a goal even after realizing they no longer want it. It may take some trial and error to figure out what you find meaningful and pleasurable enough to pursue in the long haul, but having tenacity doesn't imply you never change your mind.
Find your passions and be interested if you want to develop grit and resilience. Recognize that along the way to accomplishing your goal, you will stall and maybe fail. Try your best to see failure as an opportunity for growth rather than a justification for giving up on your dream. Having tough individuals around you could also be beneficial.
Dr. Angela Lee Duckworth is a professor of psychology at the University of Pennsylvania. Angela focuses on non-IQ abilities like self-control and tenacity that can predict success in both the classroom and in the workforce. Her research subjects have included West Point cadets, National Spelling Bee finalists, inexperienced teachers, salespeople, and students. Angela graduated with a B.A. in neurobiology from Harvard in 1992 and a master's degree in neuroscience from Oxford as a Marshall Scholar. At the University of Pennsylvania, she earned her Ph.D. in psychology.
