The Impaction team speaks to Annie Contractor, the Executive Director of Africa's Tomorrow. Africa’s Tomorrow is a non-profit organization supporting rural African women toward US college degrees. They believe that removing barriers to education for those who face oppression is the best investment in the future and provides a catalyst for change throughout the world. Kabelo Makotoko, a former Africa's Tomorrow scholar and board member, described her experiences as a scholar. Why does providing education opportunity for women matters? Annie says, it's because women invest in all of us. “Women invest in their communities at a greater degree than men when given the same resources. Women invest in their communities right away, they don’t wait. Investing in women pays in dividends for everybody." Annie also touched on topics like white supremacy. She's aiming to change perception in the international development field where white-majority leaders aim to support African "beneficiaries." Her final words of advice? Collective impact. "People are doing great things in remote pockets. We have to figure out how to link arms and work together. One idea is to figure out indicators of success."
