Suman Malagkit is glutinous or sticky rice cooked in coconut milk with sugar and ginger. This is a family recipe from southern part of the Philippines. This is served usually with warm ginger tea (Luy-a) or Tsokolate (warm chocolate drink magde from Table) or with coffee. Suman are served also during special occassions like birthdays, christmas & new year's eve dinners , fiesta celebration or in picnics. This is something I look forward to each time I go home to the Philippines, I love it when my father prepares this.

I made some modifications with this recipe because I would like to have it more or stronger ginger taste and I have learned a trick on how to wilt banana leaves. Living here in Germany I don't have access to the natural ingredients like fresh coconut milk. I have found some alternatives to be able to make Suman here. Here is the recipe:
SUMAN MALAGKIT with GINGER
Ingredients:
(Zutaten)
5 cups (1 kg) Glutinous Rice
(5 Tassen (1 kg) Klebreis)
5 cups (3 cans) Coconut Milk
(5 Tassen/3 Dosen Kokosmilch)
200-300 grams of Ginger grated/sliced, adjust depending on your taste
(200-300 g geriebener/in Scheiben geschnittener Ingwer)
20 tbsp Sugar
(20 Esslöffel Zucker)
1 tbsp Salt
(1 Esslöffel Salz)
Banana Leaves
(Bananenblätter)
Equipment: Steamer
(Dampfgarer)
