One of the bodyguards of Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh was brought to Assam’s Dibrugarh on Monday. According to sources, the bodyguard identified as Varinder Singh will be kept at the Dibrugarh Central Jail.
Singh was arrested by the Punjab Police on March 23 in connection with a video that showed him opening fire in the air. The police had registered an FIR on January 18 and booked him under Section 336 of the IPC along with Sections of the Arms Act. With this, the total number of pro-Khalistani leaders lodged in the Dibrugarh jail rose to 8.
Earlier, in a bid to prevent any breaches, the security in and around Dibrugarh jail was tightened. Amritpal Singh’s uncle Harjeet Singh and driver Harpreet Singh were also brought to Dibrugarh jail earlier this month.
