Bios:
Noah D. Drezner (he/him/הוא) is Professor of Higher Education, Vice Dean of Academic Success and Strategy, Director of the Higher and Postsecondary Education Program, and Principal Investigator of The Tzedakah Lab at Teachers College, Columbia University. He is internationally recognized as a leading researcher on educational philanthropy, with a particular focus on how social identities influence charitable giving to higher education and how postsecondary institutions can engage alumni more inclusively. Additionally, he is the founding editor of Philanthropy & Education (Indiana University Press). He has been Visiting Professor at the Institute for Law and Philanthropy (ILP) at the Buchman Faculty of Law and a scholar-in-residence at the Office of Resource Development and the Alumni Organization at Tel Aviv University (2023-2024) and Visiting Professor of Education and Philanthropic Studies at Beijing Normal University (2016-2021). His research and service have earned him recognition and awards from the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE), Teachers College, Columbia University, the University of Rochester, and the University of Pennsylvania.
Jenny Irons (she, her/s) is a Senior Program Officer at the William T. Grant Foundation, where she leads the Institutional Challenge Grant program and the major grants funding initiative to support research on reducing inequality among youth. She is a key member of the Foundation’s senior program team, which sets program directions, develops new initiatives, and reviews grants. Before joining the Foundation, Jenny directed student leadership and engagement programs at Tulane University’s Newcomb Institute, conducted qualitative evaluation research in New Orleans, and was an associate professor of sociology at Hamilton College. Jenny earned her Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Arizona and her B.A. in sociology-anthropology from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi.
Oren Pizmony-Levy (he/him/הוא) is an Associate Professor in the Department of International and Transcultural Studies at Teachers College, Columbia University. Pizmony-Levy is the Founding Director of the Center for Sustainable Futures and is an affiliated faculty at the Columbia Climate School. Trained as a sociologist, he specialized in the study of global educational movements, including test-based accountability and international large-scale assessments, LGBTQ+ education, and environmental sustainability education. His current projects include studies of teacher engagement with climate change education, and the international landscape of organizations active in climate education and communication.
Jenny Zhang (she/her) is an Associate Program Officer at the Spencer Foundation. Jenny’s research agenda focuses on literacy and language learning. Drawing from literacy studies, linguistic anthropology, and development studies, Jenny uses ethnographic methods in her research to examine the ideologies, practices, and outcomes of an international development intervention focused on early-grades literacy in Indonesia. Jenny also researches how minority language rights are framed and contested within educational policy, curriculum, and the politics of everyday life in eastern Indonesia. In all her work, she strives to illuminate how interventions meant to support language and literacy learning can be scaled up without losing their value and essence, while also appropriately contextualized for diverse sets of learners. Jenny earned a Ph.D. in Education with a certificate in Global Metropolitan Studies from UC Berkeley.
