The build up to next year's Champions Trophy has begun. Teams are back playing ODIs and today we have the two Asian teams - Afghanistan and Bangladesh - taking on each other. It is a 3-match series with Sharjah one of Afghanistan's adopted home venues hosting the games. Bangladesh are playing their first ODI since March of this year. They're coming into this series having lost the home Tests to South Africa and with plenty of off-field issues.
Shanto has given up his Test and T20 captaincy but continues to lead the ODI side. There's also the issue of Nasum Ahmed and Nahid Rana not receiving their UAE visa in time and being unavailable for the first game. They would do well to put everything behind them and compete against an in-form Afghanistan side.
Hashmatullah Shahidi's side are flying high having recently won an ODI series against South Africa for the first time and that too at this very venue. The odds are with Afghanistan to win the series. But can Bangladesh change that? They have won their last three encounters against Afghanistan. It will be an exciting series as both teams are familiar with the conditions.
Najmul Hossain Shanto (Bangladesh Captain): "Feel a little excited. The boys are in good zone we had a couple of good practice sessions. The thing is not to worry about their strengths and rather focus on our strengths. They batted brilliantly but we too have quality bowling attack. I hope they something special today. Not really someone from last T20 World Cup Rishad Hossain come in the ODI team and I hope he does well."
Hashmatullah Shahidi (Afghanistan Captain): "We want to bat first. The pitch looks very good and in the second innings the ball starts doing something under the lights. Thank you Ramiz Bhai! He (Sediqullah Atal) did wonderful in the Emerging Asia Cup so we gave him an opportunity today. Hopefully he will come good for us. We have a lot of spinning options in our Playing XI which allows me to be a bit unorthodox."
